Details: Xerocate is a wound dressing that keeps the wound clean and promotes healing. Xeroform petrolatum dressing is made up of a petrolatum blend on fine mesh gauze. It is non-adherent, so it won’t stick to the wound site and cause trauma to the area when removed. However, it will cling and conform to body contours. Xeroform is used to cover and protect low to non-exudating wounds. Xeroform is an occlusive dressing that keeps air out, which helps protect the area while also promoting a moist environment for healing. Xeroform uses include protecting donor sites, lacerations, burns, abrasions, and skin graft sites. Xeroform occlusive gauze strips can be used for compression therapy or to pack wounds, and are appropriate for use with both deep and shallow wounds. Due to the inclusion of 3% bismuth tribromophenate in the dressing, Xeroform has a bacteriostatic action, which can help to ward off infection while keeping the wound site moist and helping to promote healing.
